Prepping for a Superficial Chemical Peel

To prepare for these superficial peels avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 4 weeks prior to treatment. Avoid products and treatments that can cause skin irritation for at least one week prior to treatment.

Aftercare for a Superficial Chemical Peel

After a superficial chemical peel avoid vigorous activity for 48 hours, as this can cause irritation to the skin. It is essential to avoid sun exposure and use SPF 30 or higher for at least a week after the peel. Protecting your skin from sun damage is essential to maintain the benefits of the peel even after the initial post-treatment week. Avoid tanning beds and self tanners for 4 weeks after your peel. Treat your skin gently and do not exfoliate for 7 days following the peel. Active ingredients can be resumed in skincare regimen after 7 days.

Medium-Depth Chemical Peels

Neoderma offers two deeper chemical peels - the Skinceuticals Smart TCA peel and the ZO Skin Health 3-Step Peel. These are medium-depth chemical peels that penetrate further into the surface of the skin to maximize their anti-aging results. These peels improve the appearance of pores, acne, hyperpigmentation, melasma, skin dullness, fine lines, and skin laxity.

The Skinceuticals TCA peel is a blend of 15% trichloroacetic acid and 3% glycolic acid that improves skin’s texture and tone and is safe for all skin types. The ZO Skin Health 3-Step Peel is a blend of salicylic acid, lactic acid, trichloroacetic acid and a 6% retinol that deeply exfoliate to improve skin health and treat many signs of aging.

Preparing for a Medium-Depth Chemical Peel

To maximize your results and minimize the possibility of unwanted effects such as hyperpigmentation, it is essential to pre-condition your skin prior to receiving either of these deeper chemical peels. Prepare your skin with tretinoin or a high-potency retinoid for at least 4 weeks prior to treatment. Meet with our skincare specialist to create a skincare regimen that will prime your skin for a deeper peel!
5-7 days prior to the peel, stop the application of active skincare ingredients, avoid sun exposure, and stop waxing, bleaching, or tweezing.

What to Expect After a Medium-Depth Chemical Peel

You will have visible peeling and flaking that will begin about 2-5 days after treatment and can last for 7-10 days. Please keep this downtime in mind when you schedule your treatment! You may experience redness, flaking, and swelling after your peel. DO NOT PEEL OR SCRATCH. If necessary, cut the peeling skin with clean eyebrow scissors.

Aftercare for a Medium-Depth Chemical Peel

For the Skinceuticals Smart TCA Peel do not wash your skin for at least 4 hours following treatment. Use gentle products only and moisturize often. Avoid scrubbing, exfoliating, and active ingredients until skin is fully peeled. Avoid sun exposure and apply SPF 30 or higher daily. Appropriate sun protection is essential to minimize complications and maximize the benefits of the peel. Avoid strenuous exercise or sweating for 24 hours.

For the ZO Skin Health 3-Step Peel do not wash your skin for at least 5 hours following treatment. Ideally wait until the next day to wash your skin. Apply the entire packet of Retinol Creme. Avoid direct sun exposure, strenuous exercise, facials, hair removal, or laser treatments until the skin is fully healed. After the skin has fully healed and peeled you can return to your daily skincare regimen including SPF 30 or higher. Remember sun protection is important to maintain the benefits of your peel!
