Why is the GentleMax Pro Plus the right laser?
The GentleMax Pro Plus by Candela is the industry's gold-standard hair removal platform because it carries two lasers in one: a 755 nm Alexandrite for lighter skin and a 1064 nm Nd:YAG that treats deeper skin tones safely — so every Fitzpatrick type, I through VI, gets an effective setting matched to their skin. That matters in a region as diverse as Orange County.
Comfort is engineered in, too: its built-in Dynamic Cooling Device sprays a burst of skin-protecting cryogen before every laser pulse, and we add a Zimmer cooler blowing cold air over the area throughout your session. Sessions are fast — underarms take about 10 minutes — with no downtime.
Why timing matters: the hair growth cycle
Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment (melanin) inside the hair. But the laser can only disable a follicle while the hair is in its active growth phase (anagen)— when the hair is still connected to its root and packed with the pigment that absorbs the laser's energy. In the transition and resting phases, the hair has detached from its root, so there's nothing for the laser to disable.
Anagen · growth
The laser works here
The hair is anchored to its root and packed with pigment — the laser's light is absorbed as heat that travels down the shaft and disables the follicle.
Catagen · transition
The follicle shrinks
The follicle regresses and the hair pulls away from its root. With no live connection to target, the laser can't do its job.
Telogen · resting & shedding
Hair sheds, the cycle restarts
The old hair rests, then falls out, while a brand-new hair begins to grow — only that new anagen hair can be targeted on a later visit.
Here's the catch: at any given moment, only about 20–30% of your hairs are in the growth phase — the rest are in transition or resting. That's why one session can never get everything, and why we space 6–9 treatments 4–6 weeks apart: each visit catches a fresh wave of follicles as they cycle into anagen.
How many sessions will I need?
We recommend a series of 6–9 treatments, scheduled 4–6 weeks apart. Hair grows in cycles and the laser only disables follicles in their active growth phase, so each session catches a new wave. We offer packages sized to match:
| Package | Best for |
|---|---|
| 3 treatments | Touch-ups, maintenance, or finishing a series started elsewhere |
| 6 treatments | The standard series — most clients reach their goal here |
| 9 treatments | Dense or coarse hair, and hormonally influenced areas |
Prefer to pay as you go? Single sessions are always an option.

Does it hurt? How do I prepare?

Laser hair removal FAQ
How many laser hair removal treatments will I need?
We recommend a series of 6–9 treatments to achieve your desired level of removal, scheduled 4–6 weeks apart. Hair grows in cycles, and the laser only disables follicles in their active growth phase — so it takes several passes to catch them all.
Is laser hair removal safe for darker skin tones?
Yes. Our GentleMax Pro Plus has both a 755 nm Alexandrite and a 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelength, so it safely and effectively treats all skin types — Fitzpatrick I through VI — when performed by trained professionals. Your provider selects the wavelength and settings for your exact skin tone.
Does laser hair removal hurt?
Most clients describe it as a quick rubber-band snap. The GentleMax Pro Plus sprays a burst of cryogen cooling before every single pulse, and we add a Zimmer cooler blowing cold air on the area throughout — so sessions are far more comfortable than waxing.
How much does laser hair removal cost in Anaheim?
Laser hair removal at Neoderma is priced per session, by area — from $70 for small areas like the knees up to about $268 for large areas like a full back or full legs. Buy a package of 3, 6, or 9 and save, and you'll get an exact quote for your areas at your free consultation.
How long do the results last?
Laser hair removal significantly reduces hair growth long-term — most treated follicles never grow back. Some clients choose an occasional maintenance session, especially after hormonal changes like pregnancy, but daily shaving and waxing are gone for good.
Can I shave between sessions?
Yes — shaving is fine and we actually ask you to shave the area the day before each appointment. What you must not do is pluck, wax, or thread between sessions: those remove the root the laser needs to target.
I'm going on vacation — can I schedule around it?
Yes, but plan ahead: treated areas can't have recent sun exposure, so if you'll be in the sun a lot, wait at least 2–4 weeks after your trip to resume sessions. While in a treatment series, avoid tanning and wear SPF 30+ on any exposed areas.
