What's appropriate for me: ONDA vs. ONDA Pro?
The honest, spec-by-spec breakdown — why the two machines are identical for the body, and when the Pro's facial handpiece actually matters.
Read the article →How does ONDA Coolwaves work?
Crafted in Italy by DEKA and popular in Korea, ONDA is the first and only device to use Coolwaves® — 2.45 GHz microwaves delivered through smart handpieces. The energy passes through the skin and is selectively absorbed by water-rich fat tissue underneath, where controlled heat breaks down fat cells. Your body then clears the released fat naturally through the lymphatic system over the weeks that follow.
The same controlled heat remodels the fibrous bands that cause cellulite dimpling and stimulates new collagen in the skin — which is why one ONDA treatment can reduce fat, smooth cellulite, and tighten skin at the same time. An integrated cooling system chills the skin surface throughout, protecting it while the energy works underneath.
- ✓Targets fat, cellulite & skin laxity in one treatment
- ✓Two handpieces: Deep for stubborn fat, Shallow for tightening, surface cellulite, and the chin area
- ✓Safe for all skin types
- ✓Non-invasive & comfortable — most patients describe a warm massage sensation
- ✓Zero downtime — walk in, walk out, get back to life
See what's happening under your skin
ONDA doesn't freeze fat or break it up mechanically. It uses heat — and the reason that works comes down to what the temperature increase does to a fat cell. Here is the sequence, stage by stage.

01
Before treatment
Healthy fat cells — adipocytes — sit packed together in the layer beneath your skin, separated by fibrous walls called septa. In stubborn areas these cells are enlarged and the septa are tight, which is what creates both the bulge and the dimpling of cellulite.

02
During and just after treatment
ONDA's Coolwaves — microwaves at 2.45 GHz — pass through the skin and are absorbed selectively by fat, which heats faster than the tissue around it. The stressed adipocytes push their lipid contents outward against the cell wall, forming bubble-like blebs. That pressure is enough to rupture the membrane, and the cell is irreversibly injured. Meanwhile the surface of your skin is actively cooled, which is why the treatment stays comfortable.

03
Over the following weeks
Your immune system finishes the job. Macrophages — the clean-up cells that arrive whenever tissue is damaged — surround the ruptured adipocytes and digest the released lipid and cellular debris. That material is carried away through your lymphatic system and metabolized normally, which is why results appear gradually over weeks rather than immediately. The heat also remodels the collagen in those fibrous septa, which is what smooths cellulite rather than only shrinking fat.

Mechanism described per the Onda Coolwaves International Advisory Board consensus (Bioengineering, 2024;11(12):1249) and an immunohistochemical study of microwave-treated abdominal adipose tissue (Cosmetics, 2025;12(2):42), in which ruptured adipocyte membranes showed loss of perilipin-1 and were surrounded by CD68-positive macrophages. Individual results vary.

Abdomen
Upper and lower abdomen. The most treated ONDA area — Coolwaves reach the deep fat layer while the surface stays comfortable.
How many sessions will I need, and when will I see results?
Most patients need 3–4 sessions — the average complete protocol is four sessions per area, one every 4 weeks, with each visit taking about 30–60 minutes per treatment area. Because your body clears the treated fat through the lymphatic system, results build gradually over weeks to months — you'll typically see the change continue to improve well after your final session. We schedule a follow-up about one month after you finish to assess your results.
Does ONDA tighten skin, or only reduce fat?
Both. The same Coolwaves heat that breaks down fat also stimulates new collagen in the skin above it, so the area firms as it reduces. The Shallow handpiece is the one built for this. Outside the U.S. the treatment is often marketed as ONDA lifting for that reason — in Korea and Europe the firming effect is the headline rather than the fat reduction.
Can ONDA treat a double chin?
Yes. The submental area — under the chin — is treated with the Shallow handpiece and priced at $299 per session rather than the $599 body rate, both seasonal prices through September 7. Most patients plan for the same four-session protocol, spaced one every four weeks, and results build gradually as your body clears the treated fat.
The same session works on the fat and the skin firmness together. What that means for your chin specifically is something we assess in person.
ONDA vs. CoolSculpting
Both are non-invasive body contouring, but they work in opposite ways — and treat a different range of concerns:
| ONDA Coolwaves (Neoderma) | CoolSculpting | |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | Targeted microwave heat (Coolwaves®) | Freezing (cryolipolysis) |
| What it treats | Fat + cellulite + skin tightening in one treatment | Localized fat only |
| Sensation | Warm massage feeling, with skin-surface cooling | Intense cold, numbness, suction |
| Typical plan | 4 sessions, one every 4 weeks | 1–3 sessions per area |
| Downtime | None — back to your day immediately | Minimal; temporary numbness common |
ONDA vs. ONDA Pro: is the “Pro” better for my body?
We get asked this a lot, so here's the honest answer: for the body, there is no difference. Per DEKA's own spec sheets, ONDA and ONDA Pro run the same Coolwaves® energy — 200 W at 2.45 GHz — through the same two body handpieces (Deep for fat, Shallow for cellulite and tightening). The only thing the “Pro” adds is a third handpiece, the Pocket, built for the face. So if you're treating your abdomen, flanks, arms, thighs, buttocks, or chin, the two machines deliver an identical treatment — which is exactly why we invested in ONDA.
| ONDA | ONDA Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| Power & frequency | 200 W · 2.45 GHz | 200 W · 2.45 GHz (identical) |
| Body handpieces | Deep + Shallow | Deep + Shallow (same) |
| Face handpiece | — | + Pocket (the only addition) |

Safety, side effects & medical oversight
ONDA is an FDA 510(k)-cleared device, cleared in the U.S. as the DEKA TIAC II (K211091) for heating tissue to temporarily relieve pain and muscle spasms and increase local circulation, and for a temporary reduction in the appearance of cellulite. That is a device clearance, not a drug approval, and treating localized fat or skin laxity with it is an off-label use. At Neoderma, treatments are performed by licensed medical providers trained and approved by Sal Nadkarni, DO, and your medical history is reviewed before any treatment. Temporary redness or warmth in the treated area is common and resolves quickly. Rare potential adverse effects include blistering, bruising, temporary numbness or altered sensation, and contour irregularity — we review all of this with you at your consultation. ONDA is not appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for patients with implanted cardiac devices or electronic stimulators, recent malignancy, severe vascular or clotting disorders, or uncontrolled diabetes.
ONDA body contouring FAQ
What is ONDA Coolwaves body contouring?
ONDA delivers 2.45 GHz Coolwaves — microwave energy that is selectively absorbed by water-rich fat tissue beneath the skin. The controlled heat breaks down fat cells, which your body clears naturally through the lymphatic system over the following weeks, while built-in contact cooling keeps the skin surface protected and comfortable.
Is ONDA FDA-cleared?
Yes, and it is worth being precise about what that covers. ONDA reaches the U.S. market under the name DEKA TIAC II (510(k) K211091). Its cleared indications are heating tissue for the temporary relief of pain and muscle spasms and to increase local circulation, and a temporary reduction in the appearance of cellulite. Using it to reduce localized fat or tighten skin falls outside that cleared wording and is an off-label use, which we disclose here and discuss at your consultation. ONDA is made by DEKA in Florence, Italy — one of the world's leading medical laser and energy-device manufacturers.
How many ONDA sessions will I need?
The average complete protocol is four sessions per treatment area, spaced once every 4 weeks, with each session taking about 30–60 minutes per area. Results build gradually over weeks to months as your body clears the treated fat, and we schedule a follow-up about one month after your final session.
Does ONDA hurt?
No needles, no surgery, no downtime — most patients describe the treatment as a warm massage sensation. The handpiece's integrated cooling system chills the skin surface throughout treatment to keep you comfortable, and you can return to your normal day the moment you leave our office.
How much does ONDA body contouring cost?
Through September 7, ONDA is $599 per session for any body area (abdomen, flanks, arms, thighs, buttocks), down from $900, and $299 for the submental chin area, down from $600. You can take your 3rd treatment free instead if that suits your package better. The average protocol is four sessions per area, and financing is available through Cherry and CareCredit.
Is the ONDA Pro better than the ONDA for body contouring?
For the body, they're the same. According to DEKA's own specifications, ONDA and ONDA Pro deliver identical Coolwaves energy — 200 W at 2.45 GHz — through the same two body handpieces (Deep for localized fat, Shallow for cellulite and skin tightening). The ONDA Pro's only addition is a third 'Pocket' handpiece designed for the face. For body areas like the abdomen, flanks, arms, thighs, buttocks, and under the chin, the treatment is identical on both machines.
Does ONDA tighten skin?
Yes. The same Coolwaves heat that breaks down fat also stimulates new collagen in the skin above it, so the treated area firms as it reduces — the Shallow handpiece is the one built for this. Outside the U.S. the treatment is often marketed as 'ONDA lifting' for that reason.
Can ONDA get rid of a double chin?
ONDA treats the submental area under the chin, priced at $299 per session rather than the $599 body rate. Both are seasonal prices, down from $600 and $900, through September 7. The same session works on the fat and the skin firmness together. How many sessions your chin needs is something we assess in person.
Is the ONDA at Neoderma the same as an ONDA Pro?
For every body area, yes — the treatment is identical. ONDA and ONDA Pro deliver the same 200 W of Coolwaves energy at 2.45 GHz through the same two body handpieces, per DEKA's own specifications. The Pro adds a third 'Pocket' handpiece built for the face. So if you're searching for ONDA Pro for your stomach, flanks, arms, thighs, buttocks, or chin, what you receive here is the same treatment.
How is ONDA different from CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting freezes fat cells (cryolipolysis) and targets fat only. ONDA uses targeted microwave heat, and one treatment addresses three concerns at once: localized fat, cellulite, and skin laxity. Patients typically describe ONDA as a warm massage rather than the intense cold and numbness of cryolipolysis.
Who should not get ONDA?
ONDA isn't for everyone. You should not be treated if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, have a pacemaker or any implanted cardiac device or electronic stimulator, a current malignancy or one within the past 5 years, a severe vascular or clotting disorder, or uncontrolled diabetes. We review your full medical history first, and anything notable is reviewed by Dr. Nadkarni before treatment.
