What can PicoWay Resolve treat?

At Neoderma we use the PicoWay laser for skin rejuvenation and pigmentation of every kind — not all dark spots are created equal, and PicoWay handles them all:

  • Melasma
  • Sun spots & sun damage
  • Dark spots & age spots
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Fine lines & wrinkles
  • Enlarged pores & dull texture
  • Acne scars
  • Lighter and darker skin types

How does the PicoWay laser work?

The PicoWay laser fires a beam that pulses at a trillionth of a second, targeting pigment below the surface of the skin while leaving the outer layer intact. Unlike other lasers that use photothermal energy — light and heat — PicoWay uses photoacoustic energy: a combination of pulsed light and sound waves that shatters pigment without heating the skin. That difference is why it means minimal downtime and fewer potential side effects, and why it can be used safely across skin tones.

With the PicoWay Resolve handpiece, that photoacoustic beam is split into 100 identical, evenly spaced micro-beams. They produce the same non-heating effect while reaching the deeper tissues below the surface — breaking up pigment and building new collagen and elastin at the same time. The result is brighter, more even, firmer skin from a single technology.

How many treatments will I need?

You may see results from your very first treatment, but pigment clears best over a series — so we offer packages of 4 treatments, which is what most clients choose for melasma and stubborn sun damage.

ConcernTypical plan
Isolated sun spotsOften 1–2, results from the first
Melasma & broad sun damagePackage of 4 treatments

How do I prepare and recover?

It starts with a consultation to confirm you're a good candidate. PicoWay works on lighter and darker skin, but if you're prone to hyperpigmentation your provider may have you prep with a topical pigment inhibitor first. Because the outer skin stays intact, recovery is easy.

After your treatment

  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds
  • Apply SPF 30+ on any sun-exposed skin
  • Soothe the area with cold compresses as needed
  • Use any topical ointment your provider recommends

Why choose Neoderma for pigmentation?

Pigment is unforgiving — the wrong laser or settings can drive melasma deeper or leave hyperpigmentation behind, especially on deeper skin. PicoWay Resolve is a genuine breakthrough for exactly this, and it's the same PicoWay platform behind our tattoo removal, which we've run since the technology arrived. Every treatment is medically supervised and tailored to your skin type, with prep protocols to protect pigment-prone skin. Clients drive in from across Orange County for it.

I've had four PicoWay Resolve treatments... relatively pain-free, quick and easy. The results I saw were my pores sized shrinked, brown spots faded, and a more youthful look.

My skin changed a lot with my main problem.

I have been to see Melissa for 8 years and she's great. She always has what I need, and my skin changed a lot with my main problem (melasma). I recommend Melissa — she's not only great with melasma, she is so professional and gives me exactly what I need. Thank you Melissa.

PicoWay Resolve FAQ

What does PicoWay Resolve treat?

PicoWay Resolve is our go-to laser for pigmentation and skin rejuvenation — melasma, sun spots, dark spots, uneven skin tone, fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, and dull texture. The same PicoWay laser also removes tattoos and softens acne scars.

How is PicoWay different from other lasers?

Most lasers use photothermal energy — light and heat — which raises the risk of burns and downtime, especially on darker skin. PicoWay uses photoacoustic energy instead: ultra-short pulses (a trillionth of a second) that combine light and sound waves to shatter pigment without heating the skin. That means minimal downtime and fewer side effects.

How does the Resolve handpiece rebuild skin?

The Resolve handpiece splits the photoacoustic beam into 100 identical, evenly spaced micro-beams. These reach the deeper tissues below the surface to break up pigment while stimulating new collagen and elastin — so you get brighter, more even skin and improved texture in one treatment, with the outer layer left intact.

Is PicoWay Resolve safe for darker skin tones?

Yes — because it doesn't rely on heat, the PicoWay laser can be used on lighter and darker skin types. If you're prone to hyperpigmentation, your provider may recommend prepping with a topical pigment inhibitor before treatment to further reduce any risk.

Does PicoWay Resolve hurt, and is there downtime?

Everyone's tolerance is different, but with PicoWay Resolve for pigmentation most clients feel mild to no discomfort. Because the outer layer of skin stays intact, downtime is minimal — you may have brief redness that a cold compress soothes, and your provider may suggest a topical ointment afterward.

How many treatments will I need?

You may see results from your very first treatment, but for the best results we recommend a series. We offer packages of 4 treatments, which is what most clients choose for melasma and stubborn sun damage.
