ONDA + XTherma Together: Fat Reduction Meets Skin Tightening

ONDA and XTherma fix two different problems that usually arrive together. ONDA's Coolwaves reduce the fat and cellulite under the skin; XTherma's radiofrequency firms the lax skin on top by rebuilding collagen. At Neoderma in Anaheim, ONDA runs $900 per body area ($600 submental) and XTherma founding pricing starts at $895. Neither replaces surgery.

Why combine ONDA and XTherma?

Because they treat different tissue. ONDA's microwave energy is absorbed beneath the skin, where localized fat and cellulite live. XTherma's radiofrequency heats the dermis itself, where collagen and firmness live. Reducing a fat pocket can leave the skin over it looser, and tightening skin does nothing about the fat underneath — so the two cover each other's blind spot.

One thing to be straight about up front: there is no clinical trial of ONDA and XTherma used together. Nobody has studied the combination, and we won't pretend otherwise or sell you a “synergy” that doesn't exist in the literature. This is a treatment-planning strategy — two complementary tools aimed at two coexisting problems — not a studied protocol, and that's exactly how we present it at consultation.

What does each device actually do?

ONDA delivers 2.45 GHz Coolwaves — microwave energy selectively absorbed by water-rich fat tissue beneath the skin — to reduce localized fat and cellulite. XTherma delivers 6.78 MHz monopolar radiofrequency, up to 400 W, with cryogen cooling bursts that protect the surface so heat can build where collagen forms. One works under the skin; one works on it.

ONDA Coolwaves body contouring is made by DEKA of Florence, Italy, and reaches the U.S. market as the DEKA TIAC II (510(k) K211091), cleared for heating tissue to temporarily relieve pain and muscle spasms, increase local circulation, and temporarily reduce the appearance of cellulite — treating localized fat or skin laxity with it is an off-label use we disclose plainly. It uses two handpieces, Deep for localized fat and Shallow for cellulite and skin firming, so one treatment addresses fat, cellulite, and laxity at once. (If you've seen the “Pro” model advertised, read our honest ONDA vs. ONDA Pro breakdown — for the body they're identical.)

XTherma skin tightening is made in Korea by Tentech and distributed in the U.S. by BENEV, after becoming hugely popular in Korean clinics. Its cryogen cooling makes it comfortable enough to do without numbing, and it's typically a single session with results building over two to three months as collagen rebuilds. Coverage spans the face and body — from around the eyes to the jawline and neck, plus areas like the arms and abdomen. Its FDA clearance (K232992) covers electrocoagulation and hemostasis, so cosmetic skin tightening is off-label here too — see how XTherma compares to Thermage and Ultherapy for the full picture.

ONDA vs. XTherma: how do they compare?

ONDA is a body treatment for what sits under the skin: an average of four sessions per area, at $900 per body area or $600 for the chin. XTherma is a skin treatment: typically one session, founding priced at $895 for the full face or $995 for face and neck, with results building for two to three months.

Who benefits most from combining them?

The pairing makes the most sense when fat and loose skin show up together: after GLP-1 or rapid weight loss, under the chin, and in a postpartum or post-40 midsection. If you only have one of the two problems, you only need one of the two treatments — and we'll tell you which one at your consultation.

After GLP-1 or rapid weight loss

The weight is gone or going, but two things remain: stubborn pockets that didn't shrink with the rest, and skin that looks deflated where volume left quickly. ONDA addresses the pockets; XTherma's body applicator addresses the crepey arms and abdomen. We wrote a full guide to body contouring after GLP-1 weight loss if that's your situation.

A double chin with loose jawline skin

Submental fullness is often two problems stacked: a fat pocket under the chin plus skin that has softened along the jawline. ONDA's submental treatment ($600 per session) debulks the pocket, and XTherma's face + neck treatment firms the skin over it. Our guide to treating a double chin without surgery walks through the options in detail.

The postpartum or post-40 midsection

A midsection that resists diet and exercise usually pairs a persistent fat layer with abdominal skin that has lost its snap. ONDA works on the first; XTherma's body applicator works on the second. This is one of the most common combination requests we hear from patients across Anaheim and Orange County.

Anyone set on staying non-surgical

Neither device cuts, injects, or requires downtime — you walk out and get on with your day. The honest trade: neither is liposuction and neither is a facelift or tummy tuck. Results are gradual and moderate compared to surgery, which is exactly what many people want — as long as they choose it knowingly.

How is a combination plan scheduled — and what does it cost?

As separate visits. Which treatment comes first, and how far apart, is mapped at a consultation based on whether fat or laxity dominates. There's no combination discount to claim — you simply pay each treatment's own price: ONDA $900 per session per body area ($600 submental), and XTherma founding pricing from $895.

In practice, an ONDA plan averages four sessions per area, one every four weeks, while XTherma is typically a single session whose results build for two to three months as collagen rebuilds — XTherma face + neck is $995 at founding pricing (regularly $1,200 full face and $1,500 face + neck), with body areas quoted by size at consultation. An optional BENEV exosome add-on starts at $250. Your consultation maps the sequence, spacing, and total cost before you commit to anything.

What can't ONDA and XTherma do?

They can't match surgery. ONDA won't remove fat the way liposuction does, and XTherma won't lift the way a facelift or tummy tuck does. Both deliver gradual, moderate change over weeks to months — a trade many people happily make for zero downtime, but a trade you should choose with clear eyes.

Candidacy matters too. Neither device is appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or with an implanted pacemaker or other electronic device, and each has its own contraindication list — your medical history is reviewed before any treatment, and both devices' off-label cosmetic use is disclosed and discussed at your consultation. If your skin laxity or fat volume is beyond what these tools can honestly improve, we'll say so and point you toward what would actually work.

ONDA + XTherma FAQ

What is the difference between ONDA and XTherma?

ONDA delivers 2.45 GHz Coolwaves — microwave energy selectively absorbed by water-rich fat tissue beneath the skin — to reduce localized fat and cellulite. XTherma delivers 6.78 MHz monopolar radiofrequency with cryogen cooling to heat the dermis and trigger new collagen, firming lax skin. In short: ONDA works on what's under the skin, XTherma works on the skin itself.

Can I get ONDA and XTherma on the same day?

They're scheduled as separate visits. Which treatment comes first — and how far apart the visits are spaced — is mapped at your consultation based on whether fat or skin laxity is the bigger problem. There's no fixed rule, because the combination has never been studied as a single protocol; it's a treatment-planning decision your provider makes with you.

Should I do ONDA or XTherma first?

It depends on which problem dominates. If a stubborn fat pocket is the main issue, ONDA usually leads and XTherma follows to firm the skin over the treated area. If laxity is the bigger concern, XTherma can come first. Your provider maps the order and spacing at a consultation — there is no one-size-fits-all sequence.

How much does combining ONDA and XTherma cost in Anaheim?

There's no bundle discount — you pay each treatment's own price. ONDA is $900 per session for any body area and $600 per session for the submental chin area, with an average protocol of four sessions per area. XTherma founding pricing is $895 for the full face or $995 for face + neck (regularly $1,200 and $1,500), typically a single session, with body areas quoted at consultation. Financing is available through Cherry and CareCredit.

Is the ONDA + XTherma combination FDA-cleared?

Each device is FDA 510(k)-cleared, but not for these cosmetic uses — and the combination itself has never been studied as a protocol. ONDA is cleared as the DEKA TIAC II (K211091) for heating tissue to temporarily relieve pain and muscle spasms, increase local circulation, and temporarily reduce the appearance of cellulite; XTherma's clearance (K232992) covers electrocoagulation and hemostasis. Treating localized fat and tightening skin are off-label uses, which we disclose plainly and review at your consultation.
